The first legs delivered exactly what we expected from a competitive Europa League knockout round — tight margins, tactical battles, and a handful of surprises. Aston Villa and Porto both secured narrow away wins, Midtjylland stunned Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, Ferencváros built a commanding 2-0 lead over Braga, and Panathinaikos shocked Real Betis in Athens. Meanwhile, Bologna vs Roma and Celta Vigo vs Lyon both ended level.
Now the seeded teams host the second legs, and with most ties separated by a single goal or less, virtually every fixture is still alive.

Three of the most likely second-leg results in one boosted accumulator:
Forest, Aston Villa & Roma All To Win - 8.00 (boosted from 6.00)
Forest need to overturn a 1-0 deficit in Denmark but have the Premier League quality to do it. Aston Villa hold a 1-0 lead and host Lille at Villa Park, where Unai Emery's side are formidable. Roma drew 1-1 in Bologna and now return to the Olimpico as favorites with Gian Piero Gasperini's superior squad. All three winning on the night is a very realistic outcome at enhanced odds of 8.00.
First Leg: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Midtjylland
| Midtjylland | Draw | Nottingham Forest |
|---|---|---|
| 3.15 | 3.60 | 2.25 |
The biggest shock of the first leg round. Midtjylland stunned the City Ground for the second time this season, having already beaten Forest 3-2 in the league phase, as substitute Guesung Cho's looping 80th-minute header sealed a 1-0 away win. Goalkeeper Elias Rafn Ólafsson was heroic, denying wave after wave of Forest attacks and recording an eighth clean sheet in Midtjylland's last 12 European matches.
Forest now travel to Denmark needing at least one goal to have any chance. Vítor Pereira's side have the Premier League quality to overturn this deficit, and Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo, and Igor Jesus all have the ability to change a game. But Midtjylland are superbly organized, Mike Tullberg has a clear tactical plan, and the MCH Arena will be bouncing.
Forest are still favorites to win the match on the night, but Midtjylland have earned the right to be taken seriously. This could go either way.
🔥 Odds Boost: Nottingham Forest To Qualify, Score The 1st Goal & 3+ Goals In The Match - 4.50 (boosted from 4.00)
You Name It, We Price It:
First Leg: Genk 1-0 Freiburg
| Freiburg | Draw | Genk |
|---|---|---|
| 1.60 | 4.30 | 5.50 |
To Qualify: Freiburg 1.87 | Genk 1.98
Genk edged the first leg 1-0 at the Cegeka Arena, taking a slender advantage to Germany. But the "To Qualify" odds tell the full story, this is essentially a coin flip. Freiburg's home form in Europe has been solid, and the Schwarzwald-Stadion is a difficult place for visiting teams.
Freiburg are the embodiment of German efficiency, well-organized, disciplined, and rarely beaten at home. They'll dominate possession and look to wear Genk down with patient build-up play. The Belgian side's young squad can be electric on the counter, but maintaining concentration for 90 minutes against Freiburg's relentless pressing is a different challenge to anything they've faced this season.
An early Freiburg goal would turn this tie on its head. Genk need to stay compact, protect their lead, and hope to catch the Germans on the break. One of the tightest ties to call in the entire round.
First Leg: Celta Vigo 1-1 Lyon
| Lyon | Draw | Celta Vigo |
|---|---|---|
| 2.18 | 3.35 | 3.55 |
To Qualify: Lyon 1.61 | Celta Vigo 2.38
A 1-1 draw at Balaídos, with Lyon's Endrick equalizing late, means this tie is perfectly poised for the second leg at the Groupama Stadium. Lyon topped the league phase standings with seven wins from eight and were the competition's top scorers, so they'll be confident of finishing the job at home.
But Lyon's recent form is a concern. Paulo Fonseca's side were on a four-match winless run heading into the first leg, and while the away goal was crucial, they didn't look like the dominant force that swept through the league phase. Defensive frailties have been exposed repeatedly in recent weeks.
Celta Vigo have nothing to lose. An away goal would level the tie, and the evergreen Iago Aspas is capable of producing a moment of magic at any stage. Celta's high-pressing style troubled Lyon in the first leg and could do so again. However, the Groupama Stadium crowd should give Lyon the edge they need. Expect an open, end-to-end affair with goals at both ends.
First Leg: Lille 0-1 Aston Villa
| Aston Villa | Draw | Lille |
|---|---|---|
| 1.65 | 4.10 | 5.25 |
Ollie Watkins' superb looping header in France gave Aston Villa a first win in France in seven attempts and a precious 1-0 lead to defend at Villa Park. Unai Emery's 100th win as Villa manager couldn't have come at a better time.
Now back in Birmingham, Villa are firm favorites to close this out. Emery, a three-time Europa League winner, knows exactly how to manage two-legged ties, and Villa Park under the lights for a European knockout match is one of English football's great atmospheres. Morgan Rogers has been excellent in the competition and Watkins will be looking to add to his tally.
Lille need to score at least once, something they failed to do in the first leg despite reasonable chances. Their form since January has been inconsistent, and travelling to a hostile Villa Park against a side that's mastered the art of European knockout football feels like a bridge too far. Villa should progress.
🔥 Odds Boost: Aston Villa To Win To Nil & Watkins To Have A Shot On Target - 4.00 (boosted from 3.50)
You Name It, We Price It:
First Leg: Stuttgart 1-2 Porto
| Porto | Draw | Stuttgart |
|---|---|---|
| 2.55 | 3.40 | 2.85 |
To Qualify: Porto 1.28 | Stuttgart 3.80
Porto were clinical at the MHP Arena. Goals from Moffi and Mora secured a 2-1 away victory despite Deniz Undav pulling one back for Stuttgart. The Portuguese side now return to the Estádio do Dragão with a one-goal lead and, crucially, an away goal advantage.
Stuttgart need to win in Porto to force extra time, or win by two or more to progress outright. That's a tough ask against a side sitting four points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga. Porto's European pedigree, two Europa League titles, means they know exactly how to protect a lead over two legs.
However, Porto are missing key strikers Samu Omorodion and Luuk de Jong through injury, which limits their attacking options. Stuttgart's attacking firepower is potent, Undav, Leweling, and El Khannouss can all cause problems, and if they grab an early goal, the Dragão could get nervous. Both teams to score looks very likely again at 1.73.
First Leg: Panathinaikos 1-0 Real Betis
| Real Betis | Draw | Panathinaikos |
|---|---|---|
| 1.41 | 4.80 | 8.10 |
To Qualify: Real Betis 1.59 | Panathinaikos 2.42
The surprise of the first leg round. Panathinaikos beat Real Betis 1-0 in Athens through Taborda's goal — despite both teams having a player sent off. The Greeks were disciplined and organized, frustrating a Betis side that expected to dominate.
Now Betis return to the Benito Villamarín, where they are historically formidable. Manuel Pellegrini's side need just one goal to level the tie, and their home crowd will be right behind them. At 1.41, the market heavily favors a Betis win on the night, but the "To Qualify" odds at 1.59 vs 2.42 show this tie is far from over.
Panathinaikos showed in the first leg that they can be compact and dangerous on set pieces. If they can grab an away goal in Seville, it would swing the pressure entirely onto Betis. A fascinating tactical battle where Betis's quality should ultimately tell, but Panathinaikos are not going to make it easy.
First Leg: Bologna 1-1 Roma
| Roma | Draw | Bologna |
|---|---|---|
| 1.75 | 3.65 | 5.15 |
The all-Italian affair lived up to its billing. Federico Bernardeschi put Bologna ahead, but substitute Lorenzo Pellegrini equalized for Roma in a tight, tactical contest. Mile Svilar was superb in the Roma goal, while both sides had chances to win it late on, Donyell Malen hitting the post for Roma and Martin Vitík rattling the crossbar for Bologna.
Roma now return to the Stadio Olimpico with the tie level and the advantage of home comforts. Gian Piero Gasperini's side are the better squad, they're fighting for a Champions League spot in Serie A (fifth with 51 points), and their experience in European knockout football gives them the edge.
Bologna had a fine first-leg performance but their inconsistency is a concern, just two wins in their last ten home matches before the first leg, and their away form in big games has been poor. Roma should control this at the Olimpico and create enough chances to win the tie through Malen, Zaragoza, and Pellegrini's quality off the bench.
🔥 Odds Boost: Roma To Qualify & Donyell Malen To Score 1st - 4.75 (boosted from 4.25)
